Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher

This program is a federally funded rent-subsidy program that provides ongoing rental assistance to qualified lower-income families or individuals.

Participants lease privately owned single-family homes, town homes, apartments, and manufactured homes. Eligible families or individuals must complete a preliminary application to be placed on the waiting list for assistance. At this time, our Section 8 waiting list is closed. Time and date for waiting list openings will be posted in local media outlets. If you have a voucher and want to move to James City County please see the list of apartment complexes that accept Section 8 and contact Terra Shaw at 757-259-5345.

Apartments that Accept Section 8

The above complexes work with the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8). We do not keep a listing of private landlords who are willing to accept Section 8.

The Housing Unit also offers the opportunity for voucher participants to enroll in the Family Self-Sufficiency Program.
