Teens Toward Success

Teens Toward Success is a program designed to give youth 'on the job' training opportunities in a variety of settings throughout the County.  

In this program, youth get the opportunity to:

• Develop leadership, communication and social skills
• Explore career paths
• Build professional experience 

Eligibility/Ages

This volunteer program is for outgoing, positive and hard-working youth ages 13-17. 

Applying to the Program

Interested youth should submit a letter that includes the following:

• Why they are interested in volunteering
• Any previous work/volunteer experience
• Their preferred work area
• Why they are a good choice for this opportunity

Once the letter is received, an interview is scheduled with the youth and their parents. Acceptance and site placement are based on availability of positions.

The Youth Advisory Council is comprised of approximately 12-15 very motivated and driven young leaders. The Council represents all area middle and high school students and serves as a liaison between youth and local government. Joining is an excellent chance to not only speak your mind, but make changes and enhancements in your community.

Eligibility/Ages

Only James City County youth in grades 8 through 12 are eligible to apply.

Applying to the Program

A Youth Advisory Council Application (PDF) and interview are required. As part of the application, a one page letter of reference is required from a school counselor, teacher, leader, mentor or other adult that can speak to your abilities and personality traits. Applications are accepted until all council positions are filled.
